REVISITING PHOTOGRAPHY

What makes one photograph special and another one dull? What makes a picture meaningful to you? Or to others? This 10-week seminar favors doing and dialog over tools and technical jargon. We will read, share our insights, and apply them to our own goals in making pictures. Through the study of a handful of famous images, we will survey the history of photography and "stand on the shoulders of giants". Weekly assignments will develop your shooting and editing skills, while films, museum visits, and reviews of each other's work will deepen our understanding of the language and poetics of images.

Timing and costs: participants meets weekly 9am to 12.30pm starting Wednesday March 7.

Equipment: any digital camera with a resolution of 5 megapixels or higher, including camera phones. You will need a computer at home to download and edit your images
